Description
We are very pleased to offer this 1906 Indian Hendee Mfg. Co. Single Racer Motocycle. This bike is serial #3052 and is powered by a single cylinder 2 1/4 Horse Power Engine. This is one of the first factory built Racer having the torpedo shaped gas tank mounted on the top tube of the frame. This was a rare gas tank only used on factory built Racers in 1906. All bikes available to the public that year had the camelback style gas tank that sat on the rear fender. The torpedo style tank did not become a catalog accessory till 1907. This original engine was built by Aurora Machinery Co using the design of Oscar Hedstrom. Indian did not produce its own engines till 1907. This bike went thru a no expense spared restoration in the late 1970s. And has lived a very pampered life since. This bike was extremely clean and mostly complete when it was found. We have pictures and negatives that document some of the restoration. This is one of the most original restored early Indians in existence. It was shown at some AMCA meets in the mid 1980s and won Best of Show Awards. A RARE opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of Indian Motorcycle history. Sold as-is with bill of sale.
