The second edition of the book that started it all. First printing, with the title on the cover stamped "The New Wizard of Oz" and with a period following the author‘s name on spine. The illustration on page 68 shows a tearful Cowardly Lion (changed in later issues). The copyright is in state "B" (no priority), with double entry: first of three lines, followed by a horizontal rule, then two lines. One of the most difficult of all the Oz editions to find. Light wear to cloth with light rubbing to extremities; light toning to pages, crease to top corner of p. 115, small area of staining from pp. 170-175 affecting plate at p. 170, some staining from pp. 185-190, early gift inscription on front flyleaf, a nice, solid copy; very good.
