RARE american PERCUSSION ‘’PLAINS RIFLE’’ by A.W SPIESS, NY Ca 1870
Adam W. SPIESS was a New York city gunsmith at the end of the #19th century.
Half stock rifle with American walnut wood stock with cheek-rest.
At the back of stock we find a brass engraved patchbox for the storage of patches.
Pewter nosecap.
67 cms (26 ¼’’) Octagonal barrel of .40 caliber. The breech is extended by a long tang for receiving a removable peep sight.
The barrel is signed ‘REMINGTON’ under the wood.
Metal bottom rib, with one metal thimble. Original wood ramrod.
The percussion lock plate is signed A.W SPIESS The barrel, hammer, lock plate, trigger guard ,butt plate, toe plate, are engraved.
