bronze with applied verdigris patina to waves, inscribed signature © R. Farrington Elwell Sc., with foundry mark for Noggle Bronze Works of Prescott, Ariz. and numbered 7, mounted atop a shaped marble base.
12 x 36 x 10.5 in.
Trained as an engineer, Elwell is best known as a western illustrator, painter, and sculptor. He was a close friend with William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody, whom he met in the late 1880s.
