Item Details
Description
circa 1810, Hertford County, cherry, yellow pine secondary, bottle case on stand retaining original bottle dividers which create twelve compartments, dovetailed case (front being fully blind dovetailing and the back using half blind dovetails visible only from the back). The hinged top is constructed in an identical manner with a molded edge on both sides and the front. Bottle case is seated into a molded frame with flush rails and raised on square tapered legs. Included are five period blown decanter bottles having gilt decoration to the shoulder, and five liquor glasses. With key.
37.75 x 20 x 15.25 in.
Original tapered legs with an unusual construction technique of using hide glue to bond two opposing full-length pieces of cherry to form the legs. This construction technique reduces the likelihood of the legs warping out of original alignment.
The back board of both the bottle case and the frame being yellow pine indicates the piece was intended to be placed against the wall.
From the Family of the late Thomas Browne, Hertford County, NC, the home of The Cedars, circa 1840; by direct descent to current consignor.
