Antique German Damascus Hirschfanger Blade

Item Details

Description

Item: Nice example of the German imperial Hirschfanger dating from the mid to late 1800s and is most likely a private purchase variant, having a straight single edged blade bare of markings and decorations but showing lovely watered patterns of the layered or pattern-welded Damascus steel which is seldom encountered on such types of daggers. The higher than average quality blade of Damascus steel, as well as the fact it's not maker marked all speak towards this sword being privately ordered by its owner who obviously didn't want any maker marks on the blade. Blade shows lovely light-gray patina and has survived in beautiful clean condition. Brass furniture with clamshell guard and lovely deer stag grip, overall solid and intact, with its original leather scabbard having a compartment for a skinning knife (missing).
