Description
Milt Stock wrote two letters to former big leaguer Eddie Stanky, the first letter is giving Stanky points of emphasis to remember when meeting with baseball officials. The first point is to always come to the meeting with what you want to say written down. Also, a lot of trouble comes with the front office not paying enough attention as to who they put in control of the minor leagues, he believes that minor league managers need to be well versed in offense and defense. Also, they should be teaching the players things like base running. If the organization likes the coach he should be assured of his job regardless of where his club finishes so he can instill the fundamentals in his players. Young players need to be observant so they start to understand the game and retain information which they need to be better ball players. When it comes to base running runner need to make a quick and long turn at first on any ball hit from right center to the left field foul line. Runners need to be told to watch the ball as much as possible when they are running, that way they are learning to rely on themselves. The exception to this are balls hit directly behind the runner as he cannot see where it is. With regards to speed the runner needs to be in motion advancing to the next base as the hitter is swinging the bat. The second letter from Milt Stock to Eddie Stanky is about the minor league systems with the exception of Brooklyn making a lot of mistakes with player judgement. Clubs with money and that have intelligent management should get to the top and stay there for years. You really need scouts who will work and not just talk a good game. Branch Rickey was an example of someone who really built up his teams farm system. Both letters are stickered on the last page by JSA and come with certification cards.
