Description
This is an early British made War of 1812 period Pipe Tomahawk. The piece features a forged iron head with pierced eye hole method. The head is stamped, “BO” on one side of the blade with the other side showing two small English broad arrows “>”. The head is tight on the wood haft with original buckskin gasket present and having the original clean out plug still intact. The wood haft is believed to be a very early piece with much patina from age and use (may be a mid to late 19th century replacement, but also may be original). This is truly one of only a few confirmed “War of 1812” stylings forged iron pipe tomahawk made available for public sale. Provenance: From the personal collection of renowned collector and foremost knowledge on war clubs and tomahawks, Mark Francis. The Francis collection piece has been authenticated and is truly a museum quality important piece. The wood haft shows various kill marks. Measures 21.25"L x 8 5/8"W with a 3 1/8" blade and a 5/8" bowl.
