Description
Hardcover. 8 3/4" X 5 3/4". 559pp, 2pp photo album. One photograph (2 1/8" X 1 5/8") of two young men laid in to photo album page, see photo. Silk bookmark reading "'79 Finis Coronat Opus S.H.S." laid in to page 530/531. Ephemera laid in to rear endpapers, see photo, "LINES, by M. M. Moore. Who lost his sight in the mines of California, in 1858." Binding is sound. Contents are clean and unmarked. A very nice copy of this collection of meditations on immortality and the after-life, dedicated "To the friends of the 341, 670 (Official Report) deceased soldiers, who volunteered in defense of the Union."

Condition
Very good +. Moderate rubbing to red cloth hardcover binding, with gilt stamped device, lettering, and floral decoration to covers and gilt lettering and decoration to spine. Corners rubbed and mildly bumped. Heavy rubbing and wear to head and tail of spine. All edges gilt. "J. Newton Orchard From his mother" inked to blank page, with decorative "Newton Orchard" card laid in. Illustrated plates with tissue guards throughout.
