STAUNTON, VIRGINIA CARVED WOODEN ARCHITECTURAL CASTING PATTERN, six-piece model used in the manufacture of cast-iron fence / gate posts, featuring a spired finial above a tapering octagonal standard embellished with stylized foliate and other carved devices. Likely original black-painted surface. Third quarter 19th century. 56 3/4" HOA.
Good condition with minor to moderate scattered wear and discoloration, very small losses to high points.
Provenance: From a Shenandoah Valley private collection.
Ex-Mark Amiss, said to have been purchased from the widow of a Staunton, VA factory worker.
