2vol., with advertisement leaf at rear for the fourth edition of Quadrupeds, title vignettes, wood-engraved illustrations and vignettes throughout with inked over vignette at p.285 of vol.1, contemporary half-calf, rebacked preserving backstrip, [Roscoe 15c & 17b], 1797 [i.e.1798]-1804; and 3 other sets of the same, 1832-47, including one bearing Jane Bewick's signature ; Figures of British land birds , Vol.I [all published], last vignette in first state, Jean Hersholt signed bookplate to front pastedown, t.e.g., contemporary gilt panelled morocco, [Roscoe 16], 1800, occasional light spotting and staining, rubbed, 8vo, Newcastle (9) Jane Bewick (1787-1881) was the eldest daughter of the wood engraver Thomas Bewick by his wife Isabella. She is known for her lifelong veneration for her father's memory, and her store of anecdotes about his work and ways. Jean Hersholt (1886-1956) was a Danish-born actor who lived in the United States, where he was a leading film and radio talent, best known for his 17 years starring on radio in Dr. Christian and for playing Shirley Temple's grandfather in Heidi.
