Watercolor on laid paper depicting the branch of a cherry blossom tree beginning to bloom which supports a bird of prey, characters and artist chop marks throughout, mounted to yellow and cream and gold brocades of cranes and lotus blossoms, hardwood scroll weight, image: 44.5"h x 13.25"w, total: 74"l x 18.125"w.
2.) Printed scroll after painting by Ma Lin (ca. 1180 – after 1256, China) titled, 'Quietly Listening to Wind in the Pines.' This example block printed with the image of a scholar and child in a pine forest and surrounded by a printed background in cream on gold simulating brocade of mythical creatures in round medallions surrounded by foliate bosses, block printed seal stamps and characters, wood scroll weight, image: 39.25”h x 18.375”w, total: 47”h x 25.25”w.PROVENANCE:

1.) One tear at the brocade seam, 3.5"l and some horizontal creasing. 2.) Top edge is completely torn and staining in upper left quadrant and some along bottom edge, taped repair, 3"l by scroll weight, 8 small pin head sized holes and a hole in the calligraphy.
