A unique and intriguing copy of Colonel Ormand Lissak's highly praised textbook on artillery science. Within the pages are a multitude of proofreader's notes, handwritten emendations to the text, and the printer's errata slips neatly mounted on each of the corrected pages. Treatment of the text suggests an intimate acquaintance with the book, with text, captions, footnotes and mathematical equations all painstakingly edited. The front flyleaf bears the signature: "A.A. King Jr., U.S. Military Academy, Sept. 1912." His name also appears on the cover of the supplemental collection of plates which is laid in. 1912 was King's last year as a cadet at West Point, and he returned to the school in 1916 to teach in the English and History Department. Colonel Lissak himself could also be considered as the possible author of the editorial rearrangements. There is also the possibility that this copy was prepared by the publisher or a co-editor. Whatever the case, this revised version of the book was apparently never published.
