Description
Europe, England, ca. 12th to 15th century CE. A carved white stone figurative sculpture depicting a seated gentleman of import, perhaps a bishop of lord, donning a stylish long, curled and pierced coiffure and flowing robes, looking at a coveted (possibly holy) manuscript in his hands. A poignant depiction, speaking of solemn reverence for the written word. Size: 5" L x 3.5" W x 6.25" H (12.7 cm x 8.9 cm x 15.9 cm)
