DESCRIPTION: WWII era bookcase commemorating the life and military career of Captain James E. McMillan (1917-1945). Cherry frame inset with heavy and finely detailed cast brass panels. One panel depicts McMillan's bust, Airforce Wings, and US Eagle motif. The opposite panel depicts his life and service from 1917-1945 including Center School (Bloomfield New Jersey), Bloomfield High School (New Jersey), Princeton University, Airforce wings, his bust, an American bomber, and the last entry of Luzon, P.I. April 4, 1945. Captain James E. McMillan, Army Air Force, died in a plane crash on Luzon in the Philippines on April 4, 1945. He received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in bombing missions of the Army Air Force against enemy installations, shipping, and bases. His field of operations was New Guinea, Australia, Netherlands East Indies, and the Philippines. He entered the service in February 1941. MEASUREMENTS: 24-3/4" x 24-3/16" x 9-3/4". CONDITION: Modest wear to the padded book ends. Light surface wear and discoloration to the brass.
