Tiffany & Company was founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in Brooklyn, Connecticut in 1837. The company was initially labeled as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium." When the company built a $500,000 store at 15 Union Square West, Manhattan, designed by John Kellum, it was described by The New York Times as a, "palace of jewels."
