Description
Sohn won the gold medal in the marathon. Korea was under Japanese rule, and Sohn was forced to compete for the Japanese team and use a Japanese name, Son Kitei, but he signed his name in Korean and asserted Korea's independence in interviews. There is a Sohn Kee Chung Memorial Park in Seoul. He is one of Korea's most revered national heroes.
