Description
16th-17th century AD. A hollow-formed gold discoid plaque with outer ring of rectangular cells each set with a cabochon garnet, central rosette of larger similar stones with triangular cabochons to the spandrels; rear stud in knotted configuration. See Schimmel, A. The Empire of the Great Mughals, London, 2004, item 67 for similar cabochon settings. 4.46 grams, 18mm (3/4"). From the Knee family collection; acquired by Win Crockett, the current owner's mother, part of her jewellery collection formed in the 1970s-1990s; thence by decent 2005.
