Typed letter signed A. Einstein, to a Dr. Schuster. 11 lines. On sheet of letterhead of "Professor Dr. Albert Einstein, Berlin W30, Haberlsnstr. 5." 29x22.5 cm (11½x9")
The letter is in German, translated as: "To the Librarian, Dr. Schuster, Berlin. Dear Sir, I thank you for sending me your interesting journal. Owing to the fact that I am at present burdened with commitments and obligations of various kinds, I regret but I cannot contemplate contributions to your journal. I would, however, introduce to your notice Mr. Reichenbach, Privatdozent of this University, who specializes on the philosophic basis and history of the general questions concerning natural science." During this period Einstein was Director of Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics in Berlin. Accompanied by the Maggs Brothers paper folder in which the letter was sold at some time, with pencil notes of the writer and date.
