Description
Memorial for Ichabod Stafford, died 1804, in period frame, watercolor and ink on paper, depicting his widow and showing the town (Oneida, NY). In the original mitered mahogany frame, under glass. 12- 1/4" x 13- 3/4". Yellowed. Stafford was born in Warwick, Rhode Island in 1762. He served in the Revolutionary War service as Fifer under Capt. Malachi Hammet and Col. Staunton of Rhode Island. He was in a group that founded the first settlement in the Oneida area. His wife was Humility Green Stafford (1759 - 1851), they had four children. He died as a result of epidemic illness that followed a tragic, wide-scale flood through the Oriskany Valley.
