Magnificent Large New York Gilded Pier Mirror, having an ornately carved deep relief crest featuring an Eagle on a Rock Outcrop, with a fine chain suspending twenty gilt spheres from its beak, the same number of spheres decorate the crown molding (indicating the number of states in the union when this was made, 1818), framed by scroll and leaf carving; the mirror frame itself has short columns with delicate Corinthian capitals flanking a gold, black and white eglomise panel depicting an Italian capriccio harbor scene, the mirror itself is flanked by unique reverse tapered plain columns, resting on a molded base, 62" tall overall, 30" wide at the crest, 29" wide body. 5- 1/2" deep crest (which is removable for transport). Minor loss to gilding, old repairs.
