Description
18th c. in red paint (over older green paint), having ring and urn turned spindles, beaded edge frame and scrolled arms, old black oilcloth brass tacked upholstery, splayed ring, flange and urn turned legs with H-stretcher, museum number on upper back leg. 18" seat, 27- 1/2" arms, 38- 3/4" back, 25" x 22- 1/2", very good condition.
PROVENANCE: This chair was part of the original furnishings of the well-known Sullivan Dorr House, Providence, RI, passed down through the family. Sullivan Dorr (1778-1858), Boston and Providence, Rhode Island; by descent to his sons Thomas Wilson Dorr (1805-1884) and Sullivan Dorr, Jr. (1813-1884), Providence, Rhode Island; by descent to their great niece Margarethe Lyman Dwight (born 1871), Providence, Rhode Island; bequeathed to Providence Preservation Society, Rhode Island, 1956; sold to Joseph K. Ott (1929-1994), Providence, Rhode Island, 1977; by descent to his wife Anne Ott, Providence, Rhode Island.
