According to the factory letter, this revolver was shipped from the factory October 18th, 1865. Shipped to J.W. Storrs, New York City. Smith & Wesson's sole agent from 1857-1869. It was shipped with the full blue finish and smooth rosewood grips in a shipment of 100 units. Other features include five shot, octagon barrel, full rib and case colored hammer. All legends sharp. Traces of color on hammer. Revolver retains approximately 85% of the original factory blue finish, thinning on base and high edges with some patina starting to show through. Rosewood grips are excellent with original varnish. Indexes perfectly. Strong, clean, rifled bore. It is obvious this gun shows little to no use. It is housed in a book whose center was cut out to hide the weapon. Accompanied by a box of 1882 dated Winchester ammunition. The book, if you're interested is "A Library of Poetry" by Bryant, dated 1874. Extremely difficult to find such high condition, full factory blue finish examples. This one is extremely nice.
