Referred to as the "Statehood Sets", Winchester contracted to have one set of matching rifle and carbine made to represent each of the 50 states. Therefore, no two are alike, since only one rifle and one carbine were made. They were hand engraved by Giovanelli, a noted master engraver. Each set of guns was engraved specifically for the individual state. The majority of these were purchased by state government and institutions, and even the most knowledgeable Winchester collectors have probably never seen a set of these firearms. Each gun is brand new, never fired, in the original Winchester box with matching end label. There is a booklet that shows all 50 State Commemoratives. The left side of the frame has the seal of the state of Missouri, the 24th state - 1821. The engraver has signed the rifle on the left side of receiver. The engraving is almost Celtic in design, deep chisel engraved, the emblem is in gold and colored enamel on a French grey receiver. The rifle has a half octagon/half round barrel, blued finish, full magazine, sporting sights. The wood is a beautiful highly grained walnut stock, checkered, with rifle buttplate. Right side of frame is engraved with Winchester rider. There are no coins in the stock. This a very tasteful and arguably the most hand embellished and finished of any Winchester modern day commemorative firearm. The carbine features the same embellishments on metal and wood as the rifle. It has a 20" round barrel, full magazine, two barrel bands, post front sight, and sporting rear sight. Rear barrel band is satin nickel like frame. These are literally one of a kind, never to be duplicated, matching set, unfired, new in box with all the paperwork.
