Description
The piece was found in Bedford, Pennsylvania. It features a carved head mounted onto a log neck and body. Period furniture legs were used to fashion the legs. The tail is made of rope. There is a blue and white ticking used over the body for the saddle to sit on. The saddle is probably earlier than the horse. It is a simple saddle used on the lead horses of the Conestoga Wagons. It could have been made to hold a saddle or as a child’s toy. Measures 40 inches long x 32 ½ inches tall. There is some scattered wear from age and use. One of the legs has some damage and a repair, paint shows some losses and wear.
