Description
Comprised of: 1) A pair of 1830s-1840s American officer's gold bullion epaulettes (2) with gold lace straps ending in gilded brass crescents, with 3/8 in. diameter bullion fringe (4 1/2 in. L). Each with a small, convex general staff button at end, secured below to original cotton tape ties below. Silk lining on underside now largely missing, exposing cotton padding at crescents and cardstock stiffeners of the strap segments, otherwise in good condition. 2) Pair of British other ranks' brass shoulder scales or wings, early- to mid-Victorian, consisting of brass scale straps ending in solid brass, raised crescents and backmarked: "FIRMIN & SONS/ MAKERS/ LONDON" in circular cartouche. Each wing has brass liners and two pair of copper attachment loops (one loop missing on one wing). Light oxidation on underside lining beneath strap/scale portion of each wing and light dents on crescents above; otherwise in good condition.
