June 19, 1847-Dated Mexican - American War Period, an Original Map of Western California Listing U.S. Army Posts, Extremely Fine.
An original, very rare and historic Lithographed folded Map of California, showing the various United States Army Posts from Sacramento to San Diego and LaPaz (Lower California). Contains the number of soldiers stationed at each Post as of June 19, 1847 and the distances between posts. This black print Map measures 13” x 16.5” unfolded. This Lithographed Map was prepared by the Adjutant General's Office at Monterey, California originally as part of a report by the President regarding the Mexican War of 1848. Folds, minor foxing. An important early map of the coast of California, accomplished shortly before its Statehood in 1850.
