Description

A brief autograph letter signed, by famed Congressman and abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens. Dated Feb. 26, 1863, from Stevens to Capt. Benjamin Bear [Baer] of the 122nd Penna Vols. Baer was the son of the well-known Lancaster printer and bookseller John Baer (or Bar). Stevens writes "I have at length sent the inclosed answer to a letter I sent with you long ago..." Dampstain over bottom half of letter. Modern print of Stevens and description of the letter are enclosed in the frame with the letter.
