Paris, late 19th/early 20th century, handles with bellflowers, acanthus, ribbon and shields including twenty-five 9-1/2 in. hollow handle knives, steel blades; eighteen 8 in. hollow handle fruit knives, steel pointed blades; 8-1/4 in. ladle, oval bowl; ten 5-1/8 in. wide bowl, two tine forks, all with family monogram with crown, marks for André Aucoc (Paris, working 1887-1911), 13.50 oz. T. weighable silver,. Condition: all blades with corrosions and discoloration other wise average wear. Notes: The Torre e Tasso family title descended from the Czech branch of the princely house of Thurn and Taxis, a German dynastic family known for their activity in the postal services in 16th century Europe. Prince Alexandro of Thurn and Taxis (1181-1937) relocated to Italy in 1923 and was given the titles "1st Duke of Castel Dunino" and "Prince della Torre e Tasso" by Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. In 1906, he married Princess Marie de Linge (Château de Beloeil, Belgium) and they had three children together before divorcing in 1919. Their children took the title of "Prince(ss) della Torre a Tasso". Castel Dunino remains part of the Torre e Tasso family’s estate.. Provenance: Descended in Family of Prince Louis de Ligne (1854-1918), Princess Marie de Ligne (1885-1980, Belgium) and Louis della Torre e Tasso (1907-1985) (former Czechoslovakia, Italy)
