Description

A Louis XVI period Barometer, French in origin and dating from the end of the 1700s.to early 1800's. The oval frame with exterior gilt-wood decoration, surmounted by a garland and floral motif. The face with temperature states painted alongside the glass thermometer, with various dates and record temperatures near the base & cap of the scale. The dial bordered with barometric "conditions" in French, ranging from "Tres Sic" to "Tempete". with mercury vile in tact. Condition overall very good, couple small sections of plaster gilt missing, color lighter than picture shows. normal wear and old repairs on backside. H. 35'' W. 21'' Dial face 14''.
