RARE Circa 1906 Mail Pouch Tobacco Advertising Litho/Print by Bloch Bros Tobacco Co. '' We are not positive if this print is original from 1906. we did remove it from frame it appears old. Consignor said her husband bought it 45 years ago at a farm auction in Beckly W.V. . I've never seen this particular one before to compare it. Bid on it as you feel it is. were selling it to be 40 years plus old No returns. This is to settle an estate all selling absolute. The frame is oak print size 16'' x 20''. A LITTLE HISTORY Aaron & Samuel Bloch of Wheeling, West Virginia, began manufacturing West Virginia Mail Pouch Tobacco. This was chewing tobacco packaged in a paper pouch resembling a mail pouch, hence the name Mail Pouch Tobacco. The Bloch Brothers Tobacco Co. (see history as of 1954 at Bloch Bros' 75th Anniversary) was incorporated in 1890, and they began their marketing strategy of painting ads on the sides of rural barns as early as the 1920's. Barn owners were paid a nominal fee ($1 or $2 yearly) and by having their barns painted (and repainted periodically). Mail Pouch barns were still being painted as late as the 1990's. I Believe and read somewhere many prints were reprinted for their 75 yr. Anniversary and this may be one of them.??
