Materials: Original contemporary 3/4 black morocco leather binding, gilt ruled spine with gilt lettering

According to Freeman Murray published 7000 copies in two issues, this copy with the incorrect spelling of "that" on p. 208. Written by Darwin fast on the heels of The Descent of Man, "in part at least, as a confutation of the idea that facial muscles of expression in man were a special endowment" (Freeman). A classic work. Some wear/scuffing to covers, spine ends and corners. Pages with some age toning are clean and bright, the binding is tight and intact. The leather is smooth and supple to the touch. Note: Riwaka Library in gilt on the spine is the only Lib. mark, the cloth on the back cover is a bit wrinkled.
