Description
English, last quarter 19th century. An Aesthetic Movement tortoiseshell bamboo and lacquered cabinet or bookcase, having a scrolled openwork partial gallery, over a black lacquered top decorated with gilt and red flowers, with two glass doors, opening to reveal bowed shelves, with rattan sides, with splay bamboo front legs. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 50.825", width 30.25", depth 12.25".
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Scuffing at bottom door seam. Seam splitting on interior shelves. Losses, abrasions, and water damage to lacquer on top. Rattan sidings do not match - one appears to have been replaced. Bamboo separating from top. Dusty. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
