Description
Attributed to Edme Samson (French, 1845 - 1969), fourth quarter 19th century. An ormolu mounted porcelain encrier or inkwell decorated in the Kakiemon style having a central hinged inkwell with removable porcelain liner and one wax seal (no monogram) with four pen receptacles . The underside with red horn mark for "Chantilly" and underglaze "France". Approximate height 3.25" (to seal), width 6.25", depth 3.25". Provenance: Property from the Private Collection of Mrs. Nancy Rutledge Pogue, Blufton, South Carolina (wife of Mr. William Pogue, who served as an heir to the H. & S. Pogue Company department store chain based in Cincinnati, Ohio).
