Description
Birge & Fuller (American (Bristol, Connecticut), circa 1844-1848. A double steeple or steeple on steeple fusee clock having a rosewood veneered case in Gothic style with 'steeples' and shaped glazed door with fitted lower panel reverse painted tablet enclosing the painted tin dial with roman numerals and having a large opening in the center of the dial to make the 8-day time and strike brass movement visible. The lower section with glazed reverse painted tablet opening to printed makers label (partial) indicating Improved Steel Spring "EIGHT DAY BRASS CLOCKS/ Made and for sale Wholesale and Retail by /BIRGE & FULLER/ BRISTOL, CONN./ WARRANTED IF WELL USED/ along with directions for regulating the clock. The movement stamped "BIRGE FULLER/BRISTOL, CONN/USA". Approximate height 26.5", width 13.5", depth 4". Provenance: From the Estate of a prominent publisher and philanthropist, Greenwich, CT.
