Description
English/Scottish, 19th century. A rare white salt glazed figural spirit flask modeled as the large head of "Souter Johnny" (Johnnie), a character from a poem written by Robert Burns, the end of Johnny's 'nightcap' forming the spout. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 7.25", width 7" ( nose to handle). Note: A couple different pottery factories have been noted in producing these figural flasks; Doulton / Watts from Lambeth Factory in England and Murray Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland. All examples noted have a brown salt glaze.
