Description
By William Kurtz, circa 1890-1910, found in Brown County, Ohio. This remarkable piece is a double sided folk art frame in the form of a cross with four interior panels, each with hand carved peach pits suspended from wire with 72 carved peach pits in the form of flasks, ladies purse, jugs, baskets, turtles, buckets, teapots, hearts, pitchers and more, many with relief carved details such as horseshoes, hearts, flowers, animals and more, all in original gold painted finish. The frame itself is wonderfully carved with whimsey ends including free swing candle lanterns, and surmounted with a wonderfully detailed carving of a two story Victorian home with man standing on porch, on a stepped wood base, all in original gold painted finish and with original glass. Base is 5 1/2" x 10", frame is 20" wide x 22" high, all in wonderful untouched condition.
