Very fine 20th Century Chinese porcelain, potted in tall squared body, with straight shoulder tapering gracefully towards cylindrical neck, leading to slightly narrowed opening with flat rim; raised on splayed round foot base. Each panel delicately hand painted in famille rose depicted various scenes of birds flying over bamboo tree under sunlight; showing calligraphy inscription of themed poem, followed with artist iron-red signature seal. All set against pale-turquoise-green underglazed ground. Displayed upon a comforting carved hardwood stand.

Bamboo symbolizes the ideals of a Confucian scholar because both are perceived as upright, strong and resilient while still being gentle, graceful and refined.
Bamboo also represents the ideals of the Taoists (Taoists) because it can bend during the worst weather but not break.

From the collection of General Chen Qi (陳淇) (1912-2000), who styled himself as “Cangquan” (滄泉）and “Yuquanshanren”（玉泉山人), an artist, calligrapher, a prominent businessman and private antiques collector.
