Description
A pair of Framed Vintage George and Martha Washington Silhouettes. In an age before photography, a silhouette cut in the profile of a face provided an inexpensive means to recall or share the likeness of a friend or loved one. Philadelphia-based artist Samuel Folwell created this George Washington silhouette in 1791, when George Washington visited Charleston as part of his tour of the southern states. He may have captured this image when Washington appeared at a public venue, as the President did not record sitting for Folwell. In matching frames, each measures 13x15"; Image-4.5 x 6.5". Weight is 4 pds. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
