Exceptional William Johnson Fusee Mantle Clock. c.1825-1840. Miniature size carved walnut case has a serpentine form with carved wreath around the dial bezel, scrolling filigree at the feet and figural serpents in the front of the base panel with tails wrapping up and around the wreath and into the crest. Quality 3 in. silvered bronze dial signed “Wm. Johnson, Strand, London, has pierced heart decorated hands, black incised roman hour numerals and gilt brass engine turned door bezel with domical crystal. The quality brass 8 day single fusee spring driven time only movement is signed Johnson, Strand, London; brass tombstone shaped plates with fancy turned brass posts, single fusee with fine chain, pendulum hanging from T-bridge suspension with steel stick, brass bob and lockdown hardware. Case has an excellent rubbed finish, missing a few minor pieces of carving. 9.25 in. high x 7 in. wide x 4 in. deep.
