Description
Very fine lacquer 2-panel folding screen / Furosaki byobu, by Shikanji Shoichi (Japan, 1911-1990). Early Showa Era, c.1930-40. The front composed of colored and gold raised lacquers depicting a bird perched on a brown ground among leaves. The reverse painted in gold and silver nashiji flake lacquer. Each panel measures 18" x 66.25". Overall measurement 18" x 66.75". Artist signed in gold on the backside. Comes with four original black metal wall-mounting clips.
NOTE: Consignor's notes titles the piece: Shiro Atto, English translation: After the Castle. Title taken from the original box (no longer available) which also was signed Zuisho (Shikanji Shoichi).
