A salt shaker made of red Bohemian glass, decorated by an artist with engravings of houses and animals. The upper part is made of silver-plated brass (remains of silver-plating).
According to the family, this salt shaker belonged to Rabbi Yisrael Friedman, the Rebbe of Boian in Leipzig, the son of the first Rebbe of Boian, Rabbi Yitzchak Friedman.
Added is a signed letter in which the son of Rebbetzen Gitl Shapira states that he had received the salt shaker from his mother, the Rebbe's daughter.
The Rebbe, Rabbi Yisrael Friedman (1878-1951) was born in Sadigura to Rabbi Yitzchak Friedman, the first Rebbe of Boian, the grandson of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin. During World War I, he escaped with his father and brother to Vienna. After his father's death in 1917, he became the Rebbe in Vienna and Leipzig. Many came to receive his blessing and advice. The elders of the Boian Hassidim said of him that he looked like his grandfather, Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin.
In 1935, he visited the Land of Israel and when he returned to Leipzig, told his Hassidim that he intended to return to the Land of Israel. In 1939, he escaped the Nazis to Switzerland and after several months immigrated to the Land of Israel. He settled in Tel Aviv and opened a Beit Midrash on Yavneh Street of the city. Like the other Rebbes of Ruzhin who had immigrated to Israel, he was buried in the ancient cemetery of Safed.
His daughter, Gitl Leah married her cousin Rabbi Mordechai Sheraga ben Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Boian-Tchernowitz. Her second marriage was to Rabbi Yesha'aya Shapira, Ha'Admor Ha'Chalutz and her third marriage was to Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov of Drohobych.
