Martin Kippenberger (1953-1997)
Martin Kippenberger’s work is characterized by his provocative personality and his extreme positions in diverse styles and media. Kippenberger was named the enfant terrible of his generation. He graduated from The University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, where he was inspired amongst others by Sigmar Polke. Kippenberger’s refusal to adapt to a specific style resulted in an extremely prolific and diverse work, which includes sculptures, paintings, works on paper, photographs, installations and prints. Kippenberger’s art work was honored already during his lifetime by exhibitions in international museums. Today, many of his works are on display in important museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. (fea)
