Alex Katz is one of the most important contemporary artists. He is known for his series of portraits, representing the people of his acquaintance, but also celebrities from film and fashion

The works of Alex Katz, who was considered a leading representative of the Pop art movement in the 1980s, show a combination of realism and abstraction. Alongside Andy Warhol, he is one of the main proponents of seriality. In the 1950s, he began experimenting with the techniques of printmaking, which would become a key element of his artistic career.


Condition:

The works are in very good condition, showing only the lightest marks from storage. The size of the cardboard is 99 x 104.3 cm, and 99.4 x 104.3 cm respectively.


Alex Katz (b. 1927)

Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927. He studied at the Cooper Union Art School in New York and the renowned Skowhegan School of painting and sculpture in Maine. His work is attributed to Modern Realism and Pop art. Most of his works are portraits, but he also created landscapes and architectural images. In 1954 the Roko Gallery in New York presented the first solo-exhibition of his work. In 1974 the Whitney Museum of American Art organized a travelling exhibition of Alex Katz’s prints. Ever since, Katz has exhibited his work internationally. His work is also part of prominent private and public collections. (cko)
