Jean Prouvé (1901-1984)
Jean Prouvé was born in Paris in 1901. He trained as a blacksmith with Émile Robert and Adalbert Szabo. In 1924 he established his own workshop in Nancy. In addition, he began designing furniture, which should combine function and aesthetics available at reasonable prices. In 1927 Prouvé made acquaintance with Le Corbusier, followed by his first major architectural designs. In 1929 he received his first patent for sheet steel doors. He was also chairman of the jury during the competition for the construction of the Centre Pompidou. Prouvé's works cover a wide range from letter openers to furniture, facades and prefabricated buildings as well as building systems. He is considered a model for many designers.
