Description

Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved Burmese mythical creature assuming a part-human form, as is characteristic of most creatures found in Burmese folklore. This figure, perhaps Belu the man-eating humanoid being known for shapeshifting qualities, or Yetkhat, a Yaksha-like guardian of treasures buried in tree roots, standing at the ready, poised with a long club (carved separately) in his left hand, staring straight ahead with inlaid glass eyes. Custom stand. Size: figure holding club measures 7.5" W x 13.75" H (19 cm x 34.9 cm)
