Leo von König (1871-1944)
Leo von König studied around 1890 at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Berlin before he changed to the Académie Julian in Paris. Years of travel brought the artist among others around Germany and to Russia, England and France. After that, von König settled down in Berlin and became a member of the 'Berliner Secession'. Among his friends were famous colleagues and personalities such as Ernst Barlach, Georg Kolbe, Gerhart Hauptmann as well as Julius Meier-Graefe. The oeuvre of the artist is guided by the French impressionism and by his enthusiasm for the art of the Mannerist painter El Greco (1541-1614). (msc)
