Description
Model 1831 French artillery sword or "gladius," designed after the Roman gladiator's short sword. Manufactured around 1840 by Talabot of Paris. Because it was a useful tool around camp, as well as a formidable close-quarters weapon, the sword's nickname was "coupe choux," or "cabbage chopper." Measures 25-1/2" long in scabbard. Very heavy for its size and in great condition.
