Description
A mid-Victorian pair of silver sugar tongs, of plain Fiddle pattern form with monogrammed terminal, hallmarked Reid & Sons (David Reid), Newcastle 1856, length measures 5 6/8 inches (14.5 cm). Together with two further pairs of silver sugar tongs, with foliate and scroll embossed decoration, one with initialled terminal, hallmarked London 1874 and Birmingham 1905 and a silver anointing spoon. Gross weight 4.78 ozt (148.8 grams). (4).
Condition
In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor loss of definition to the embossed decoration. Stem of the anointing spoon has a monogram. Hallmarks clear and legible, some minor rubbing to the maker's mark and date letter on the Newcastle tongs.
