Description
A 1920's silver mounted capstan inkwell, having a weighted octagonal sided base and a circular hinged lid opening to a glass ink pot, hallmarked Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1927, length of base measuring 4 5/8 inches (11.8 cm). Together with a silver square shaped ink stand with central recess containing a silver mounted glass ink bottle (a.f), hallmarked A & J Zimmerman Ltd., Birmingham 1903, base measuring 4 7/8 inches (12.5 cm) square. (2).
Condition
Both ink pots are in fairly poor condition, displaying general wear, tarnishing, surface marks and scratches. Numerous dints, bumps and knocks to both. The hinged lid of the ink pot does not sit flush when in the closed position, leaving a large gap. the weighted base is also very loose. The other ink stand has some holes and splits in the metal at the corners and the lid of the glass bottle has broken off at the hinges. Rubbing and distortion to hallmarks.
